The 84th Annual Meeting of the Indian Academy of Sciences is being held at Varanasi, hosted by the Banaras Hindu University, during 2 – 4 November 2018. The two and a half days’ deliberation will see the participation of many Fellows and Associates of the Academy and invited teachers from different parts of the country who will engage in active scientific discussions with the Fellows.

The meeting will include inaugural lectures by newly elected Fellows and Associates over a wide range of scientific topics. The deliberations also include two special lectures on GM crops in the Indian context: Looking back, looking forward and The sciences of the artificial: Promise and reality,along with high-level scientific symposia, on Materials of Today and Tomorrow and Community Health– A Genomic Perspective. Encompassing wider areas, the 84th Annual Meeting will carry forward the tradition of public lectures by scholars from various fields. This year the public lectures include talks on Buddhism and science and the Changing faces of women in Hindi cinema

The 84th Annual Meeting will also comprise many allied events including  the following:

  • IASC-ACS forum: Expanding Frontiers in Chemical Sciences
  • Advances in Earth System Sciences - A symposium funded by the Journal of Earth System Sciences
  • Editorial Board meetings of Journal of Earth System Sciences and Pramana- Journal of Physics
  • Popular Science Workshop by tAcT, the Academy Trust
  • Exhibition of Academy’s publications (journals and books)

A brief press conference. All the scientific presentations are open to public, in particular college and university students, faculty and others.
